If you are experiencing tooth pain, or you feel pain when you chew food, or have a tooth that is sensitive to hot and cold, you may have developed a dental carie. And if that is the case, you are not alone. Dental caries, or cavities, are holes that can form in the teeth from the effects of bacterial plaque.

Plaque is the clear, sticky film which forms on your teeth until it is removed. If you run your tongue along the bottom of the teeth and gum line on the back of your teeth, you may be able to feel it. Plaque damages tooth enamel by releasing acids that corrode enamel and the layer of tooth beneath it, known as dentin. Cavities can form between the teeth, on the root surface of a tooth, and most frequently, on the top (or biting surface) of the teeth.

If this is happening to you, we can help! Our dedicated dentist, Dr. Alan L. Nix can restore your tooth’s natural function by removing the decay and filling the hole left behind. There are a variety of filling possibilities ranging from amalgam fillings and composite fillings to porcelain fillings. When you come in to have a tooth filling done, you can expect the following:

— Dr. will determine the extent of the tooth decay and help you decide on the type of dental filling to use to restore your smile.

— You will be given a local anesthetic to numb the area surrounding the affected tooth.

— Dr. will cut through the tooth enamel to clean out all decayed tissue.

— Dr. will shape the area to be filled with the filling material.

— After the filling has been set to fit your bite, we will finish the process by polishing your tooth.

Once your tooth is restored, it will function as good as new! To help you with any problems you are experiencing with your teeth, we invite you to come in and have our dentist, Dr. Alan L. Nix take a look. You can reach our dental team in Terrell, Texas at 972-563-7633 today.
