Alan L. Nix, DDS
Dr. Nix was a triple major in math, chemistry, and biology at Austin College in Sherman, Texas. He had a particular interest in math, as he enjoys solving problems and arriving at a solution. Dentistry is very much like that, except it involves human beings. Dr. Nix pursued his dental degree at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio, graduating in 1980, and he has been practicing in the area ever since.
Dr. Nix continues his education very regularly. He is a member of the Academy of General Dentistry, which pays particular attention to continuing education. Dr. Nix strives to provide patients with the best, most up-to-date treatments possible, so he always exceeds the required amount of hours. He enjoys learning new techniques and discovering ways to better treat patients. Dr. Nix has received advanced training in oral sedation, nitrous oxide, bleaching techniques, sleep apnea and anti-snoring appliances, children’s dentistry, implants, and cosmetic dentistry.
Dr. Nix’s goal with every patient is to help them define and reach their goals for their optimal dental health. At our office, we customize our service according to the patient’s wishes. We are here to serve and accommodate the patient rather than dictate procedures. Dr. Nix and his team treat each patient as if they were a family member. Dr. Alan Nix has been practicing for over 35 years and has performed approximately 1,000,000 procedures. Even now, with every procedure, every patient continues to be treated as if they are the most important patient we have. We simply follow the Golden Rule.
Dr. Nix is a member of the American Dental Association (ADA) and the Academy of General Dentistry (AGD). He is also a member of several study clubs and dental “Think Tanks.” It is extremely beneficial to brainstorm patient care and the newest technology with highly respected professionals. Dr. Nix is currently on the Board of Directors of the Circle Ten Council of the Boy Scouts of America. When he was a teenager, Dr. Nix was awarded the rank of Eagle Scout—the highest award possible in scouting. He is proud to say that all five of his sons are also Eagle Scouts. Dr. Nix also currently serves on the Friends of Scouting Fundraising Committee.
Dr. Nix and his wife, Patricia, have been married for 40 years. They have lived in Terrell since Dr. Nix began practicing in 1980. They raised their family there. Patricia holds a master’s degree in education and has been teaching in Terrell at Methodist Day School for 18 years. Dr. Nix and Patricia are very proud of their six children – one daughter and five sons. They have four grandchildren and two more on the way. They plan all of their free time around their family and schedule family events often. Dr. Nix and Patricia’s youngest – twin boys – attend Dallas Baptist University, so that gives them a lot to keep up with! They attend Highland Park Presbyterian Church.
Dr. Nix has a variety of hobbies. He enjoys swimming for exercise, as he was a competitive swimmer in college. He attends CrossFit competitions whenever he can. Dr. Nix’s sons, Spencer and Sam, own four CrossFit gyms in Dallas. Dr. Nix loves restored older cars, playing ping pong, driving his Honda on back country roads, and trying to keep up with Patricia on her five-mile-a-day walks. He also loves going to concerts.
